Are you Game? Shiraz 2017

This shiraz is a vibrant red with some purple hues. On the nose are notes of ripe plums, lifted florals, pepper spice and nicely integrated oak. The palate is medium bodied and balanced with ripe fruits, silky tannins and soft oak.

A complex blend due to the different ripening conditions the two parcels of grapes experienced. A dash of viognier was co-fermented with the shiraz and provides a sweet fruit perfume lift and complexity to the palate. The wine was matured in French (60%) and American (40%) oak for 12 months.

Wine Making

2017 was a very cold year; one of the latest seasons for many years. The fruit for this wine was harvested from our Upton Run vineyard and another in Dookie. Dookie is renowned for it’s very early ripening and did not let us down. By contrast, Shiraz from our vineyards in the Strathbogie Ranges did not ripen until late April – one of the latest vintages on record!
