Deep cherry red.
Ripe dark berries, plums and rhubarb meld with hints of nutmeg and black pepper.
An elegant cool-climate Shiraz that epitomises the Strathbogie Ranges terroir. Full bodied with rich red fruits, spicy oak, supple tannins and a long, smooth finish.
2016 was an early and fast ripening season. We picked our shiraz blocks in early March which was 2-3 weeks ahead of normal years. This early season means we had to allow sugar levels to get relatively high before we achieved the fruit flavour ripeness we like to see.
The fruit for this wine was harvested on two separate days. The fruit from Block 1 was harvested during the day on 1 March and Block 5 was harvested on 4 March, 2016. We chose to ferment this wine at 24° Celsius using ‘Clos’ yeast to enhance varietal character. The majority of this wine (70%) was matured for sixteen months using new mostly (90%) French and the remainder in American oak. A small amount (20%) was matured for fourteen months in old French oak.
