2020 was a warm vintage with low yields, providing excellent fruit quality. Sangiovese grapes thrive in warm conditions, so we were able to pick the fruit when it had a lovely balance of sugar, flavour and tannin.
The Sangiovese grapes were harvested from our Upton Run vineyard using a selective process harvester in late March 2020. After gentle crushing, the juice was fermented in stainless steel to maximise colour and preserve primary fruit flavours and aromas. A cultured yeast was specifically selected to enhance spicy flavours and aromas in the finished wine. For nine months this wine was matured with old French (50%) and American (50%) oak. The combination of these create a great balance of vanilla and oak spice.
