Vibrant ruby red with hints of magenta.
Dark spiced cherries and dark berries with hints of lavender, olives and subtle vanilla oak notes.
Ripe red cherries with subtle spice and earthy undertones. Moreish dry tannins on the mid palate with a lengthy finish.
Vintage 2021 was a cooler vintage with lovely slow conditions ripening, providing both good yields and excellent quality and flavour. As Sangiovese thrives in warm conditions, we had to wait for optimal ripening and the grapes were picked on 30 April 2021 - the last day of vintage and one month later than the previous year!
Sangiovese fruit was harvested from our north-west facing Upton Run block. After being gently crushed, the juice was kept on skins for six days of fermentation to achieve savoury tannin complexity. A cultured yeast was selected to enhance spice and fruit flavours in the wine. The wine was matured in older French barrels for eight months to provide structure, but not enough oak influence to overpower the Sangiovese varietal characters.
