Vibrant cherry red in colour, this Sangiovese shows savoury aromas of anise, oak and suble fern. It is medium-bodied with savoury flavours, anise spice & iodine which is often seen it Italian varietals.
2017 was the coldest and wettest year in more than a decade. Even by long term averages it was considered a late vintage. What that translated to was relatively lower potential alcohol levels at harvest time and relatively higher acids. The Sangiovese picked from our M2 clone, (we have two clones and the other is used for the Rose), slowly ripened and and we were able to pick the fruit with a good balance of acidity and ripeness. This wine is true to variety be medium body, savour with fine dusty tannins. Wild fermentation after 3 days cold soaking have created a savoury wine with elegant tannin structure. Malolactic fermentation occurred in barrels and due to the cold season this took more than 6 months to complete, this has also added to savoury complexity in the wine. This wine has had minimal filtration and may leave a harmless natural precipitate in the bottle.
