Stone Dwellers 2018 Mourvèdre

Stone Dwellers is a range of wines grown on select regional vineyards that are made to showcase the best varietal examples from the Strathbogie Ranges each vintage. Fowles’ family vineyards rest amidst the ancient granite boulders of the Strathbogie Ranges. Cloudless days and cool nights allow our grapes to gradually develop intense aromas and flavours. Our ‘hands-off’ winemaking philosophy lets our wines express the true personality of varieties from this region, every vintage.

Vibrant red with some purple hues. On the nose are aromas of ripe plums, lifted floral notes, pepper spice and integrated oak. The palate is medium bodied with ripe fruits and soft tannins.

Wine Making

2018 was an outstanding vintage for both red and white varieties. It is the kind of vintage you see once in a decade. Vines began the season with reasonable soil moisture from the wet season of 2017. With balanced canopies and fruit load, the warm ripening season without any severe heat waves provided ideal ripening conditions. The fruit for this wine was kept on skins for 8 days of fermentation to achieve a balance of primary fruit and savoury tannin complexity. We matured the wine in 2 year old French oak to allow for vivid expression of fruit with just a hint of oak in the background.
