Finalist for Farmer of the Year 2024 Awards

Finalist for the Farmer of the Year Awards 2024

We’re incredibly proud to share that Fowles has been nominated as a finalist for the 2024 Farmer of the Year Awards, a national recognition of the work we’re doing to farm thoughtfully, responsibly, and in harmony with nature.

Each year, The Weekly Times and Coles shine a spotlight on standout farming operations across Australia. This year, we’re humbled to be named one of just three finalists in the Horticulture category, and especially honoured knowing that we didn’t self-nominate. To be acknowledged independently by the judging panel for our commitment to sustainability and biodiversity is a milestone moment for our team.

At the heart of our nomination is our work supporting native microbat populations within our vineyard ecosystem. These small but mighty creatures play a crucial role in natural pest control, and by nurturing their habitat, we’re helping restore balance to the vineyard while reducing the need for chemical intervention. It’s one part of a much broader sustainability strategy that’s helping us build long-term ecological resilience across our farm.

The Farmer of the Year Awards celebrate excellence in agriculture across a wide range of sectors – from dairy and sheep to cropping, horticulture and innovation. Finalists are selected based on environmental practices, farm innovation, business performance, and community contribution. This is the 13th year of the awards, and we’re thrilled to be part of such a passionate, hardworking group of Australian farmers leading the way forward.

This nomination recognises the years of dedication our team has poured into sustainable farming – and the belief that great wine begins with great stewardship of the land.
